5 MYTHS ABOUT EXTRAVERTS

1. Extraverts have to be the center of attention
Extraverts can be good at being an audience to others. Remember that extraverts gather mental energy from the outside world and environment. However, that does not mean that they have to be in the center of attention. They do, however, often feel uncomfortable with awkward silence.  So, if others aren’t talking, they will most likely fill in the silence.

2. Extraverts aren’t shy
Some extraverts can be shy or quiet, especially in new environments & situations. Again, extraverts are defined by how they gather energy.  This is quite different from how comfortable they are in a group or how confident they feel in a new situation.

3. Extraverts don’t make good listeners
Extraverts can make great listeners. Extraverts enjoy interacting with others and a good conversation. This includes listening. As a matter of fact, extraverts oftentimes welcome someone else contributing to the conversation and not having to carry it.

4. Extraverts always have lots of energy
Extraverts can be tired & lethargic when at home or left alone too long. They gather energy by being out and around others. It doesn’t have to be a big group. They just like to be out and really enjoy interacting with others. This makes them energetic in public.

5. Extraverts hate to be alone
Extraverts need their quiet, reflective time too. They often need this after a long day of extraverted time. They enjoy and need a little time to reflect as well.  However, they are not gathering energy when doing so. Those with Extraverted Sensing (ESTP & ESFP) can often times get overstimulated by their natural ability to constantly take in information with their senses. Because of this, they can find themselves retreating.
